Clinics & Services

Child Health Care

Both of our doctors are very experienced in Child Health – from within General Practice and from previous work in hospitals. They are always available for consultations about matters that may concern you within their regular surgeries.

We are also privileged to have experienced health visitors working with us. Bridget Etherington and Jill Lee both work part time and between them look after the children of our practice providing routine care and support for families and children.

They can be contacted either through the practice or directly on 01661 832512.

Routine immunisations are also provided by the practice and these are given by our practice nurse, Cora Maple. This is usually done on a Wednesday morning, but if this time is difficult we can usually be flexible in trying to meet your needs.

Ante Natal Care

This is led by our Community Midwife, Mandy Robson, who has been working in Prudhoe for a number of years. Mandy is a very friendly and approachable midwife and we are very pleased to have her working with us. If you would like an appointment please ring the surgery on 01661 836386.

Chronic Disease Management

Many people have ongoing health problems, some of which can be lifelong and complicated to manage. These conditions sometimes require a more organised approach in the care we provide.

We look after over 120 people with diabetes and we have a team approach to this – with help from Cora Maple our practice nurse (with training and experience in chronic disease management), a specialist dietitian and our doctors. If you are unable to get to the surgery because of immobility, our district nurses are also involved in this aspect of care.

We also ensure that we organise the ongoing care of other problems such as heart disease, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease and high blood pressure. This is often done through our regular surgeries and practice nurse sessions rather than in specific clinics as we have found that this offers greater flexibility for our patients.

Immunisations

We offer annual influenza vaccines to our older patients and to those who would find themselves at risk if there was an influenza epidemic.

We also offer other vaccinations as and when needed and for travel purposes.

Contraception

Contraceptive services are offered by our doctors in normal surgeries.

Please note that the ‘morning after pill’ is available from our local chemists without needing to see your doctor. This and other forms of contraception such as the coil are also available from Family Planning Clinics at Ryton Tel: 0191 283 1586, Hexham Tel: 01670 543 131 and the New Croft Centre in Newcastle Tel: 0191 229 2999.

Minor Surgery

Dr Haywood is happy to remove certain small “lumps and bumps” under local anaesthetic and will inject certain joints if appropriate.
